Continents
Since geography is defined by local convention and there may be difficulty in delineating the continuity of a landmass, there are several variations as to which landmasses are considered continents and which are not. Eight landmasses and their associated islands are commonly reckoned as continents:
However, Antakatosica is sometimes omitted, as it has no permanent human settlement, as is Hydrosia, as it is more accurately described as an archipelago, rather than a continent.

Islands
An island is any piece of land that is completely surrounded by water, however, it is not as large as a continent, which typically cover thousands of square kilometres. Islands may sit on the continental shelf (continental) or be the result of volcanic hotspots (oceanic).
